  • One of my favorite interviews… check out episode 25 of Kimberly’s Podcast “Beauty Inside Out”
  • Here’s the digestive enzyme that I use (when I remember!), and more about the magnesium that I travel with (and keep in the night stand at home :-))…
    • Elemental magnesium transports oxygen throughout the body (including the colon), and has a gentle, NATURAL stool-softening effect. This helps to loosen intestinal build up and aids in the release of waste/toxins that may be present. It’s non-habit forming (it’s NOT a laxative, which I absolutely do not recommend) – it’s safe to take regularly, and it’s a MUST HAVE when I’m traveling or sluggish for any reason.

  1. Christy

Is it Christmas?! Ella and Kimberly in one podcast! Thank you – great podcast!!! Couple of question that I would love for a follow-up:

    1) Vitamins A and K2. Your recent guest Nadine Artemis talked about switching from a vegan diet to incorporate more animal products because she thought that a purely plant based diet was deficient in the beauty vitamins A and K2 needed for good bone and dental health. Can we get these things in the plant world?

    2) I read all of Kimberly’s books and went full on her plan and felt great . . . for a while. I work out hard and noticed that I was getting soft and that my workouts and recovery were weaker. Protein? I would love to hack this. I added back in meat and that fixed the problem but I don’t like meat!!

    3) Bad bloating on a vegan diet. Ugh! I tried food-combining, enzymes, you name it. I look pregnant eating so many vegetables. Help!

Thank you Ella!! I also wanted to let you know that my Minu hair products order came yesterday and as you like to say “its a chemical poop storm!” Perfume, dye, sulfates, EDTA, cones, the list goes on. I will give it to my mom because sadly she doesn’t care. But I know you do so I wanted to let you know.

    Love you! XO

Christy, there is so much here! GREAT to hear from you. I’m moving these brilliant questions onto my list for the next Q&A podcast because I could not begin to do them justice here. 🙂 Stay tuned…I love these questions – and I CAN RELATE. so more coming….. love you back, sister! xoxo Ella

  2. Bethany

Great podcast! A question for Ella and Kimberly…I know that a lot of nutritionists and food trends are starting to especially beware of sugars — even naturally occurring sugars. Should I be mindful of fruit sugars (for instance, when I make a glowing green smoothie)? Or do you think that the alkaline benefits of fruits outweigh the consequences of fruit sugars? I hate to have to categorize “good” and “bad” fruits, but do you think there is an important distinction between some fruits which are higher in sugar than others?

    • Ella

Hi Bethany, you raise a good question, and you’re right – fructose can impact fat loss/gain for many people if it’s overdone. Personally, I limit my fruits to ~3 servings a day because I do get a bit puffy if I go beyond that regularly. Some low-carb folks will basically only eat berries 1x/day, but I’m not on that train 😉 As always, it depends on your goals and your starting point. In general, you can’t go wrong with non-starchy veggies, and those I eat in total abundance (and lemons, incidentally – they are extremely low fructose). Fruit for me, though, is not unlimited. If I make the Glowing Green Smoothie, for example, I’ll often cut the fruit by 1/3 or 1/2.

  3. Hi Ella –

Just finished listening to this episode!! Loved learning about Alkaline vs Acidic foods, and am going to start making myself start the day with hot water + lemon!! Quick question on Magnesium – I keep hearing about taking it before bed and how important it is to take every day. What do you know or have you heard about Natural Vitality Natural Calm Anti-Stress Magnesium Powder? There are wonderful reviews online, but now sure if they’re valid. Would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks for providing such a wonderful show!! XO

    • Ella

Hey Lauren – I moved away from Natural Calm because I could not figure out what they’re using for flavor/sweetening. They say no sugar, no fructose, but they don’t say what it IS. Then, I read this – check it out: https://labdoor.com/rankings/magnesium. Apparently a lot of these well-marketed brands are not what they claim to be. Hopefully that guide will help you! xoxo Ella
